Gmail's Confidential Mode ON:
While Gmail got
a huge redesign earlier this year, many features were noticed as
missing on the Android and iOS apps. Now, Gmail has
introduced the Confidential Mode for mobile users giving them more
functionality. This mode will allow user to send emails to others that will
self-destruct after a point of time. This feature has arrived for all Android
and iOS users, and you don't need to update your app to see this mode because Google is
switching it on gradually through a server-side update.
Confidential Mode arrived
with the new Gmail in April this year, and Android and iOS users are finally
getting it. This mode, available while composing an email, prevents the
recipient from forwarding, copying/ pasting, downloading, and printing the
content in the email. For Gmail users, it shows up as a normal email, but for
non-Gmail recipients, it shows up as a link that opens up in a secure portal.
In both cases the security measures you set will be in force. As mentioned, you
can set an expiration date that will automatically delete the email after that
time is completed. You can set the time period to 1 day, 1 week, and up to 5
years. Recipient verification is also available in Confidential Mode, which
allows for standard or 2-factor SMS passcode verification as well. More details
are available on the company's support page.
In Gmail Android and iOS apps, it works in the similar
manner. Just start composing an email, and tap on the overflow menu to see a
new option called Confidential Mode. Once you tap on this, Gmail will ask you
to choose an expiration date, and whether an SMS code be used for verification
or not. Earlier this month, Gmail for Android also received a new
option to turn off 'Conversation view', in which multiple emails are
combined under one thread.

PUBG@100 Million Downloads:
PlayerUnknown's
Battlegrounds Mobile aka PUBG Mobilehas now crossed the mark of 100
million downloads on iOS and Android, Tencent and PUBG
Corporation announced on Thursday. The latest development comes in fewer
than four months since the launch of the multiplayer battle royale
game for mobile devices in March. The game is touted to be the "most
accessible mobile game" - taking on Fortnite that is yet to reach all Android devices.
Earlier this month, PUBG Corporation brought PUBG Mobile Lite to the
Philippines to provide an optimised experience specifically for lower-end
hardware. The lightweight app is expected to reach other markets in the coming
future to attract gamers anticipating the arrival of PUBG Mobile-arch rival
Fortnite that was launched on Android devices during the Samsung
Galaxy Note 9 keynote last week.PUBG Mobile comes as a scaled-down version of
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds that was released for Microsoft Windows back in
December last year. The game runs on Unreal Engine 4, and just like its PC
version, the mobile version supports 100 players. It also offers in-game voice
chat to let gamers chat with their friends. In May, PUBG Mobile surpassed
the milestone of 10 million daily active users around the world, excluding
China.Tencent Games and PUBG Corporation claim that PUBG Mobile was the
most-downloaded mobile game in more 100 countries during its first week of
launch in March. The game also recently surpassed 14 million daily active users
in less than four months (excluding China, Japan, and Korea).
"We want to
thank our committed development team at Lightspeed and Quantum Studios and
especially thank the devoted players around the world that continue to inspire
us with their passion and dedication," said Vincent Wang, the General
Manager of PUBG Mobile global publishing team, in a press statement while
announcing the new downloads. "We will continue to set the bar for mobile
gaming and look to deliver even more great contents to our players later this
year."Early this month, Tencent Games partnered with Paramount
Pictures to bring fresh music, new outfits, and all-new challenges to PUBG
Mobile - all based on Mission: Impossible Fallout. The company recently
updated PUBG Mobile to version 0.7.0 that brought a War Mode, a
faster-paced variation of Arcade mode, as well as Clans and new weapons.
Xiaomi Poco F1:
Xiaomi is set to
launch Poco F1, the first smartphone from the company's sub-brand Poco, in India on August 22. Now, it looks like the Poco
F1 will be Flipkart exclusive in India. A teaser page for the upcoming
smartphone is now live on Flipkart, suggesting that the Poco F1 could be
launched as a Flipkart exclusive in the country, thanks to the words 'only on
Flipkart' in the banner. As per the teaser on the e-commerce site, something
"As Fast As You" is coming soon. With the phrase, "How Fast You
Ask?" the e-commerce giant hints towards the launch of the Xiaomi Poco F1.
Even the patterns used on the landing page appear similar to ones
used on the promotional shots by Xiaomi's sub-brand Poco. Other than that,
there seems to be no official announcement from Xiaomi. We could expect
Flipkart to reveal the name of the smartphone in the days following up to the
launch next week.Last week, Jai Mani, Lead Product Manager for Xiaomi India, revealed
details about the Poco brand, saying, "Poco is all about making
powerful smartphone with the technologies that truly matter. Recently it feels
like the pace of innovation in the smartphone industry has slowed down, while
prices are creeping up with flagship smartphones now past the $1,000-mark. We
set out to build something to buck this trend. For the first product, we got
back to basic and focus entirely on speed. Not just peak performance speed, but
actual, real world, speed."
To recall, the new
smartphone confirmed by Poco India notably surfaced online as Pocophone F1 in
the recent past. The Xiaomi sub-brand had previously revealed the Poco F1
launch date without detailing any key specifications or price of the upcoming
handset. An unboxing video of the Poco F1 also emerged on YouTube
last week that highlighted its display notch and dual rear camera setup. In
terms of specifications, the Xiaomi Poco F1 is said to debut in two different
storage variants - with 64GB and 128GB of onboard storage options. While the
Poco F1 price for the 64GB variant is speculated to debut in Eastern Europe at
EUR 420 (roughly Rs. 33,300), its 128GB variant could arrive at EUR 460
(roughly Rs. 36,400). There is no information on the price in India of Poco F1.
While Poco hasn't revealed the specifications of the Poco F1, an initial
listing on a Belarusian online store had suggested that the handset will
come with a 6.18-inch full-HD+ display that will an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The
Poco F1 is also rumoured to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC along with
a liquid cooling system.
